My
prep instructions say that I can have clear liquids by mouth. What's
a clear liquid?
Examples of clear liquids are water,
tea or coffee without cream or milk, Gatorade, any fruit juice without
pulp, clear broths, bouillon, popsicles, fruit ice, clear hard candy, any
Jell-O EXCEPT red, and soda pop. For a sample clear liquid

Should
I take my medications on the day of my endoscopy procedure?
You may take any essential medicines,
such as heart, asthma, blood pressure and anti-seizure medications.
DO NOT take any aspirin or medicines that contain aspirin for 5
days prior to your procedure. If you take Coumadin or other blood
thinning medication,
DO NOT take it for 3 days prior to your
procedure.
I'm
a diabetic, should I take my insulin on the day of my procedure?
No, DO NOT take your insulin
until after your procedure is completed and you have eaten. Please
check your blood sugar on the morning of your procedure, before you go
to the hospital. If you are scheduled for a colonoscopy and taking a bowel
prep, modify your insulin dosage as below:

If you take insulin once a day, take
only 1/2 your normal dose the day before your procedure. Do not take
any insulin the morning of your procedure until after it is completed.

If you take insulin twice a day,
take your normal morning dose the day before your procedure and none in
the evening. Do not take any insulin the morning of your procedure
until after it is completed.
I
take antibiotics before a dental appointment - will I need them before
my endoscopy procedure?
If you have had a heart valve or
joint replacement or any condition that requires antibiotic therapy before
a dental appointment, please advise our office of this several days before
your procedure appointment. We will make a determination whether
you will need them before your endoscopy procedure.
What
medications are used for sedation during an endoscopy procedure?
Drugs commonly used are one or more
of the following: Versed, Demerol and Fentanyl. If you are
allergic to any of these medications, please notify the office before your
procedure - there are other medications that may be used.
Is
Dr. Imam Board Certified in Gastroenterology?
Yes, he is certified by the American
Board of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and is a Fellow of
the
The American College of Gastroenterology.
How
long will I have to wait to get an office appointment?
Usually 1 to 2 weeks. If your
condition is of an urgent nature, we will offer an appointment as soon
as possible.
I
need a refill on a prescription, can I call the office for it?
Yes, if you have been seen as a
patient within the last year. Before you call, check to make sure
that you have no refills left. Please have all information ready
before you call - name of medication, dosage, pharmacy phone number, etc.
